on the following page
http://www.9ballonline.com.tw/download/dl.html
wakan looks up (yu le 娛樂 entertainment) but only draws one
charecter in the line that says entertainment in its popup. (error in the dictionary?)
Then I tried it on this dialog box when I write this and
I get no translation at all, but it does flicker once.
This may well be my setup, if so delete this message.
ps. any chance of changing the china flag to taiwan one for complex chars? |

I am unable to reproduce your problem exactly, but there is a problem. Both at the web site and in WaKan's Dictionary, the screen and WaKan popup tools, respectively, are coming up with information for 娛樂. The only peculiarity I see in this information is that the second hanzi, both in the dictionary and in the popup, is replaced by the simplified hanzi even when the text being pointed to is the traditional one. I don't know why WaKan is substituting this simplified hanzi, but if you have no simplified font installed, perhaps that is stopping it from displaying the information at all. Could you try installing a simplified font temporarily just to test this?
I don't understand what "dialog box" you are referring to in your message. Do you mean the text entry box (a textbox or textedit control) you were typing in to submit your message? The screen popup tool behaves the same way in the textbox I am typing in as described above.
I defer to Filip on the flag issue.

I thought I did have simplified fonts installed(simsun ?), anyway the fact that
the dictionary has it that way indicates your on the right track
about the problem.
Yes I was refering to the dialog text entry html box, for
some reason wakan is not providing popups for me here.
I guess this may be down to my installation of win2k ie6 ?

In 1.55 all traditional characters are automatically converted to simplified (and vice versa) if you have set the simplified mode. If some hanzi are missing it probably indicates problem with you font. Try using different font (MingLiU for example).

Taipei_Luke,
The place to set whether or not WaKan is in what Filip is calling "simplified mode" is on the General tab of the Settings dialog (obtained from "Settings..." on the Database menu. You probably have the radio button "Simplified only" selected; try changing it either to "Traditional only" or to "All characters (Unicode)."
Please let us know if this solves the problem you were having with the popup tool.
Filip,
My setting was on "Simplified only," and do not remember ever making that selection. If it is the default, I think the default should be "All characters (Unicode)."
I think we still have not gotten to the bottom of the problem this user is having with the popup tool.

Yes,
probably it's not the main problem of Taipei_Luke. You say that Simplified mode is the default one? Probably I should really change it to Unicode to prevent confusions, on the other hand, majority of Chinese learners probably use simplified characters. Automatic conversion caused by default selection of simplified mode might be helpful to them.
Maybe it would be best to wait for Taipei_Luke's opinion...

| I'm not sure about the default setting. I don't remember ever changing it, but it is possible that when I was testing something I changed it and forgot to change it back. It might be worth checking, though. |

Sorry its been a while since I've visited the forum, but everything
is fine when I view the same page now. 娛樂 looks correct in the popup.
So nice to see you've removed the 'experimental warning' dialog when we
click on mousover option. I'm now using XP at home and its all working very smoothly for me. |
