There were several smaller new bugs introduced in the previous version so I updated zkanji. The dictionary is the same as in the version 12 days ago, so you only need to get the executable if you have that one already. _________________ ZKanji, kanji and vocabulary study program. |

Firstly, many thanks z-one! I've become quite a heavy user and fan of zKanji.
Now for the problem. On startup of the 0.33 release I get a dialog box with:
List index out of bounds (-1).
After pressing Ok, it freezes on 'Loading database..'
I've tried it with fresh settings and dictionaries files, and also old ones from the 0.197 release. Let me know if you need any more details. |

Hi monkeymachine,
Thanks for the error report! I was writing a long post about what could cause the problem and also questions, but while browsing the program code I realized an obvious bug. I will upload the fixed version with a version number v0.331 in 15 minutes.
Thanks again! _________________ ZKanji, kanji and vocabulary study program. |

Thanks for the update, problem fix
And a quick question, what do the indicators in the first column of the dictionary mean? |

orange circle = popular word
red X = infrequent word
(At least in some newspapers. It cannot be considered valid for everything but gives a general idea.) _________________ ZKanji, kanji and vocabulary study program. |

zkanji becomes open-source from the next version!
Its web site transfers to http://zkanji.sourceforge.net. I will have to make some changes to the old site to fit the new open source state of zkanji, so at the moment you can only find the sourceforge template web page at that location, but the program updates will be available in 15 minutes.
There will be NO MORE UPDATES at the previous locations of the program. If anyone has bookmarks for one of them, change it to the site on sourceforge! _________________ ZKanji, kanji and vocabulary study program. |

Hi Sólyom,
I've just downloaded and installed the latest version (Full package + Dictionary) and the latest Example sentences database but when I run the program I get a message saying the "Current dictionary and example sentence file versions are different".
Can you post the correct version of example sentences.
Thanks,

Hi Tom,
the files should match but I will check and update if they don't.
z-one
PS. Zoltán is my given name (Hungarian names have same name order as Japanese), but I use z-one as my on-line name.
*EDIT: I have downloaded the files afresh, copied the examples.zkj to the data folder of zkanji and it's working fine. Please check the downloaded zip file sizes with those shown on the home page and whether you copied the new examples data to the data folder or not. _________________ ZKanji, kanji and vocabulary study program. |

Hi Zoltan,
My mistake. I installed the example sentence file into the ZKanji folder so the old file was still in the data folder.
Everything working OK after pasting the new example sentence file to data folder.
Sorry and thanks for swift reply,

New release: zkanji v0.39
The only bigger change you might find in it is the new stroke order diagram editor which makes it possible to add stroke order diagrams to kanji that didn't have them before, or to beautify existing diagrams that were not so pretty in Taka (though useful).
There have also been some bugfixes and introduction of stealthy cunning new bugs. I hope the latter is not true... The Tanaka Corpus hasn't been updated since last March but at least there is an updated JMdict if you want to keep your dictionary up to date. _________________ ZKanji, kanji and vocabulary study program. |
