Anybody interested in translating Wakan UI into any other languages than English and Czech please follow these steps:
(1) Download http://wakan.manga.cz/files/wakan_lng.zip and unpack it
(2) Copy the EN.LNG file to some new (for ex. SP.LNG for Spanish)
(3) Edit it, and change all text preceded by numbers from English to your language
(4) You can edit the headers too if you wish
(5) Send me (dreamfly@centrum.cz) the edited .LNG file.
Support for .LNG files will be implemented in upcoming Wakan 1.51.
I believe that the whole community will be grateful to anyone who can do this job.
Up to now, Nabil Karoui has volunteered to do the German translation, and Kenkyuushin offered to do the Italian translation. If you are interested in doing any other translation, please post your intent here first.
I'm very grateful to anyone who is willing to lend his hand to make this project better

I will volunteer to do the French translation. I am not a fluent French speaker, but I can speak well enough to make myself understood, and I will check all my translations with a dictionary. (If a native French speaker steps up and wants to do the job instead, I will happily cede to greater proficiency; but a slightly flawed translation is better than nothing at all, and it would be good practice for me.)

This may be a silly idea, but do you think a Japanese translation would be worthwhile? Quite a few of my (Japanese) friends have expressed interest in the Dictionary component of Wakan...

Tom,
I think translating the help file would be an enormous task; it's an enormous task just bringing it up to date in English, which is why I've only managed it in fits and starts. There are still pieces of it which are as Filip originally wrote them.
If you think it's important and want to try a Spanish translation, I can send you the HTML files which are used to build it (or even the whole Help project if you're comfortable with the Microsoft Help compiler), but I think the user interface is far more important, especially as Filip is writing such crystal clear UI these days that users rarely need to look at the help file anyway.

Wow! I surely did not expect a feedback of such quantity and speed.
I will happily include any translations I receive into any upcoming release.
I agree with Tony that it's probably not worth the effort to translate the help file. I have the bad feeling that when people are stuck with the program and don't know what to do they do almost everything imaginable _except_ reading the help file. Some while ago I decided to discontinue the Czech translation of help although Wakan has a very dynamic Czech community (although Czech Wakan-users are too lazy to frequent the forum). I think that up-to-date English version of help is absolutely sufficient and I'm really thankful to Tony for keeping up with this tedious job.

Kenkyuushin,
please don't feel like I urge you to do the translation ASAP. It is absolutely okay if you do it when you have the time. I appreciate that your voluntary offer, doing the translation of the UI is not a small job.

Nigel,
I'm really surprised that there are Japanese people who are interested in Wakan (if only in some portion of it). I presumed that Wakan basically does everything the opposite way Japanese people would need it...
Japanese translation would be really cool. However there could be some problems with the coding. Wakan does _not_ accept Unicode as UI text, only 8-bit encodings are accepted. However on Japanese Windows, JIS, S-JIS or EUC codings may work fine.

Hi All,
I just finished a complete French translation of the .lng file (I'm a native French speaker) and posted it to Wakan.

Gaétan,
Merci beaucoups for doing the French translation. I'm sure yours is much better than mine would have been, and I have become so busy with other tasks that I hadn't gotten it done yet. I will look forward to seeing yours and finding all the mistakes that I made in my first draft.
