Hi all,

Please take a look at the Chinese Language courses developed by the Foreign Service Institute at:

http://fsi-language-courses.com/default.aspx

These courses were developed by the United States government and are in the public domain.

Standard Chinese: A Modular Approach
The predominant language of China is now known as putonghuà, or Standard Chinese (literally “the common speech”). Standard Chinese is spoken natively by almost two-thirds of the population of China and throughout the greater part of the country.

This course is designed to give a practical command of spoken Standard Chinese. Nine situational modules form the core of the course. Each core module consists of tapes, a student textbook, and a workbook. In addition to the core modules, there is a resource module and eight optional modules.

Cantonese Basic Course
Cantonese is the principal language of the Kwangtung province in Southeast China, parts of the Kwangsi province and of Hong Kong and Macao on China’s southeast periphery. In addition, Cantonese is spoken by ethnic Chinese in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Malaysia.

This course includes samples of speech, explanations of basic language structure, and a variety of practical exercises. Each of the 30 lessons contains: basic conversations, grammar and cultural notes, pattern drills, and conversations for listening. Also included with the course are vocabulary checklists and a cumulative glossary.

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Tom

Tai xie xie! (Doumo arigatou gozaimasu.)

It's good news that the FSI Spanish course will also soon be available at this site.
