|
|
I'm running WinXP x64 and I'm using a user account with limited priviledges (but not too limited - power users group) most of the time.
I've been using Wakan for quite a while for occasional lookups, but today I've taken the time to examine the feature list and discovered the screen popup tool.
Here are the impressions:
1) It doesn't work at all for the non-admin account. Nothing happens when I click on the button, not even a slightest mouse cursor change.
2) It more or less works when I switch to the Administrator account. The cursor flickers after the click on the button, and in the Firefox browser the popups are displayed.
There are no popups in Explorer (native, 64-bit version), and when I tried to enable the tool while running the 32-bit version of Explorer, it crashed two times in a row; then I stopped trying.
3) While it 'works', just the moment after pushing the button it crashes the applications which are running at the same time under my non-admin account. Not all of them, but the examples include Miranda IM (0.6.7, the latest), ctfmon.exe (some driver utility, I guess) and foobar2000. The last one doesn't really crash, it just goes unresponsive and assaults the ears of everybody around with stuttering noise, forcing me to kill it.
This effect is sort of stable.
Interestingly enough, when I closed foobar2000 under the non-admin account and launched it under the Administrator (with the other software still running under the former), it ceased crashing upon enabling the screen popup tool.
Didn't try that with the other programs, but I suspect the result to be the same.
Will experiment more, if there is a need.
I'm quite comfortable atm with the popup tool not working with 64-bit applications, since I don't really use any of them with anything related to Japanese.
But to be able to use this wonderful feature with Firefox, AGTH and whatnot without having to switch to another account and suffer crashes would be great. |

| Sorry, have been to Finland. Anyway I think activating popup tool should need admin privileges. Not sure about the other issues, will do some testing... |

No problem, thanks for your response.
If the admin privileges are really required, then I hope that "Run as..." will be sufficient. |
