Hi,

I have tried to download the Spanish - Japanese dictionary but everytime I try to open the .zip file a message comes up saying that it's empty. How do I resolve this problem please?

Hello Florence.

The Spanish-Japanese dictionary is not a .zip file, it´s in Wakan´s .dic format (a coded .txt file).

Should download easily as edict.es.dic. Do not try to directly open this file, look at the download and installation instructions on the download page.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply but everytime I try to download the file (by cliking the link on the downloads page) it comes up with a compressed/zip file. It was only by following your instructions that I realised I couldn't find the .dic file and could only find this zipped file.

Could you tell me where the .dic file is on the website please?

OK Florence,

Go to http://wakan.manga.cz/?page=download&lang=en and find the link under Japanese Dictionaries ---> NUEVO! Diccionario japonés-español (23APR09).

If you are using IE explorer the file will show as edict_es.zip, download it and change the .zip extension to .dic and that´s it.

If you are using Firefox you shouldn´t have any problems, the following message should show:

You have chosen to open

edict_es.dic

which is a: Text Document
from: http://wakan.manga.cf

What should Firefox do with this file?

Choose save file.

Hi,

Thank you for your help, that worked great. I wasn't sure what you meant by changing the extension but took a guess that you meant when saving the download change the 'save as type' to 'All files' and put .dic at the end of the name of the file. This worked.

Thank you very much for your help this software is going to help me so much when I start studying Japanese in Spain in Spanish next month.
